The ACSPRI 2010 Spring Program will be hosted by Monash University, Clayton Campus (Melbourne). This is the first time in many years that an ACSPRI Program has been hosted by Monash and, with 12 five-day courses on offer, it is also set to be the largest Spring Program yet!
Program Details are available by scrolling down this page or clicking on the headings (above left).
To view the outline of a specific course, click on the corresponding title. To make a booking, you must create an account or login here before scrolling down the course outline page to 'add to cart' and follow the steps to checkout. If you have not created an account on this website, you will need to do so either prior to booking (to the right of screen) or as part of the booking process. To generate an invoice you should select 'direct debit'. An invoice or receipt will be emailed when your booking is complete.
"Open" indicates that there are places available to book in this course.
"Confirmed" indicates that sufficient bookings have been made and the course is locked in for the program (it can not be cancelled). Bookings for this course usually can still be made.
"Cancelled" generally indicates that the course did not attract sufficient bookings and will not run at the program. In the case that a course has to be cancelled, a full refund will be provided or the booking will be transferred to another course if preferred.
n.b. There is no set time at which courses are either confirmed or cancelled. It is not recommended that you hold off booking a place (or paying for it) until after the course is confirmed (as the course could be confirmed as a result of your booking), however it is advised that you hold off on making travel and accommodation arrangements until after this time.
Introductory courses generally have no pre-requisites. Intermediate and advanced courses often have pre-requisites specified in terms of existing ACSPRI courses. For example, Applied Statistical Procedures has Fundamentals of Statistics as a pre-requisite. Prior completion of a tertiary level course at a comparable level would be an acceptable alternative. Participants should ensure that they only enrol in courses for which they meet the pre-requisite requirements summarised as follows:
Introductory Generally nil. See individual course descriptions for additional requirements.
Intermediate Introduction to Statistics or equivalent and some familiarity with personal computing environments (e.g., Microsoft Windows). See individual course descriptions for additional requirements.
Intermediate to Advanced Familiarity with traditional multivariate statistics (e.g., regression and factor analysis) and some familiarity with statistical software packages (e.g., SPSS). See individual course descriptions for additional requirements.
Advanced Familiarity with advanced multivariate statistics (e.g., structural equations modelling) and familiarity with statistical software packages (e.g, SPSS). Some familiarity with mathematical notation may be required. See individual course descriptions for additional requirements.
If you wish to take courses in both weeks of the same program (if applicable), you may enrol in a second course at a higher level, provided that you meet the appropriate pre-requisite requirements.
If there is in any doubt as to whether you have the appropriate level of preparedness for a specific course, check with ACSPRI or your intended instructor (email contacts for all instructors are advised on the specific course outline pages).
Refunds/Cancellation Policy
Course fees are not refundable unless the course is cancelled or your application is withdrawn before the advised early-bird closing date of 16 August 2010.
A processing fee of $200 will be charged for all applications withdrawn within the period after the advised early-bird closing date of 16 August 2010 and prior to 20 September 2010.
It is important to note that the full course fee will be charged for all applications withdrawn after c.o.b. 20 September 2010 (i.e. 1 week prior to the start of the 2010 Spring Program).
It is also important to note that ACSPRI does not accept ‘expressions of interest’ for course places, i.e. all bookings, are considered firm, and the applicable cancellation fee is payable, unless you advise cancellation/withdrawal of your booking prior to the advised early-bird date.
If in any doubt about the ACSPRI refund/cancellation policy, you should contact the ACSPRI office via email, spring2010@acspri.org.au
A list of accommodation options in the vicinity of Monash (Clayton) has recently been updated. You can request this list at spring2010@acspri.org.au.
We recommend holding off on booking accommodation until the status of the course you have enrolled in changes to 'confirmed'. A full explanation of course status can be found above.
Car Parking
As the Spring Program will be held during the Spring Break, all blue permit spaces will be available for free public parking. Blue Permit areas are indicated on the campus map. When parking, you should take note of the signage around parking areas, as well as the outline of individual parking spaces within the area, to ensure you are within a blue permit space. Multi-level parking N1 should have plenty of spaces available and is the closest large blue permit area to the ACSPRI courses.
Driving Routes
The main entrance to campus is from the South off Wellington Road, near Dandenong Rd (Princes Hwy). If you are taking the Monash Freeway from the City, signage will instruct you off at Blackburn Rd for Monash University. However the earlier exit at Forster Road is a better option as it will reduce the number of right hand turns and it will take you (via Gardiner Rd) to the campus' North West gate at Bayview Avenue, close to the N1 multilevel parking.
Generally speaking, if approaching Clayton from the North, the Northern gates are preferable to the main gate to the South.
Public Transport from the City (or Northern/Western Suburbs)
From the city, the most direct public transport is the Dandenong, Pakenham or Cranburne trains to Huntingdale Station and then a bus to the campus bus interchange. This journey should take around 50min during peak hour (most courses will be located at least 5 min walk from the bus interchange).
Other Public Transport
Monash is well serviced by buses thoughout the Southern and Eastern Suburbs with services linking the campus with just about all train lines on that side of the city.
To find the best way to reach the campus by public transport from anywhere in Melbourne, check the Metlink Journey Planner.
From the Airport (taxi)
Monash Clayton is on the other side of the CBD from Melbourne Airport. This is roughly 40 minutes by taxi or car using Citylink (tollway) and the Monash Freeway however you will need to allow much more time during peak hour. If taking a taxi to the campus, the best spot to ask to be dropped off is on Union Loop Road, which is opposite the tennis courts.
