
The aim of this course is to provide students with an accessible introduction to the fundamentals of quantitative political science research.
This course will be run in one session per day running over over 5 days.
The course hours are 1.00 pm - 3.30pm each day
Dr. Charles Miller is a lecturer in International Relations at the ANU School of Politics and International Relations. He received his PhD in political science from Duke University in 2013. He works on a number of topics - especially global strategy, military effectiveness and public opinion and foreign policy. He has worked with a number of organizations as a speaker, researcher, consultant and educator, including the Australian Army, the US Army's Strategic Studies Institute, the US Embassy in Canberra and KPMG. His work has appeared in leading international journals such as World Politics and the Journal of Peace Research, where he won the Gleditsch article of the year award in 2016. He has also published in the Australian Journal of Political Science and the Australian Journal of International Affairs.
The aim of this course is to provide students with an accessible introduction to the fundamentals of quantitative political science research.
The course will be focused on understanding types of data;
- data visualization;
- bivariate statistical methods (t tests, chi-squared tests, correlation);
- and multivariate statistical methods (simple and multiple regression).
This course will run online using Zoom.
